“I’ve been wanting to get an ink since last year, I din’t know if a design would look nice on me or a phrase. I was actually having a hard time deciding on what to get but I know that I want something that’s connected with surfing so I started researching articles about ‘getting your first ink’ or something about waves. I gathered my thoughts and ended up with words that would best describe me when I surf, something like being brave when I’m in the water, not giving up, being committed and passionate on what I do.

Then I ended up getting an ink that says ‘tossed by the waves, but does not sink’. For us surfers we get tumbled and tossed underwater, its like youre in a washing machine. Thats the feeling I get when I take a sketchy drop and a bad wipe out.

A wave is symbolized as one of the strongest forces on earth. If you read more into it, its kinda about faith, a wave is you against mother nature cause you cannot control it, you dont know what the wave can do to you, you just have to out your faith into her.So as a surfer, I’m not gonna give up surfing no matter how many times i drown, get eaten by a wave or tossed underwater.

As Frances set up her work station for the tattoo, I began to get nervous cause I’d never been tattooed before but of course I knew that it was going to hurt, like pin pricks or a hot cat scratch. Frances could tell that I was a bit nervous, and told me she would start tattooing with just one simple line of my tattoo. She would then stop so I could take a moment to react to this new experience. After the first line, I thought, and then smiled. ‘It’s not really that bad.’ As she was tattooing, we calmly chatted and joked a bit. In short time – shorter than I realized – that tattoo was completed. Frances cleaned up the area tattooed and allowed me to look in the mirror at her new artwork for the first time.

I smiled and knew that my diligence in choosing the perfect tattoo design and a skilled tattooist had paid off. I was completely satisfied.

And now I’m planning on getting another one :)”
